Russell Rack, Project Surveyor

Started at Miller: 2003

On leaving school, I went straight into a Brickwork apprenticeship, earning a NVQ 3 in brickwork, then carried on at college 2 nights a week for 4 years (2 years GNVQ Adv, 2 Years HNC Building Studies).

I worked on a number of new-build housing sites as a bricklayer and had a year as assistant site manager, although my goal was to get into surveying.

I saw an advert in a local paper for a Trainee Surveyor position at Miller and joined in March 2003. I completed my HNC and went on to the Quantity Surveying and Construction Cost Management degree course, which I attend one day a week (I have one year left). In 2006 I became a Project Surveyor.

I've enjoyed working with Miller – they've been so supportive with my degree and the time required to complete it.
