Started at Miller: 1998

With a degree in Quantity Surveying, I commenced my working life with Miller Construction in 1998. After a 2 year structured Graduate Programme, I was appointed as Contract Surveyor, financially managing site based projects throughout the UK. These projects allowed my growth in confidence and provided real knowledge of the construction industry (which cannot be obtained in a classroom or from a textbook!!). Despite geographical remoteness at times, Miller always ensured support was on hand whenever required.

In tandem with my working life I am continually encouraged to develop myself through training and secondments. As such, I embarked upon a Professional Certificate in Management with the Open University and spent time working with our regional offices in Newcastle and the Midlands.

In 2003, I became a Bid Manager for the Major Projects division and continue to work with a highly skilled, cohesive team of professionals on some the most prestigious and challenging projects in the UK.

Like every job, the Construction Industry has many a trying day but I wouldn't swap my career for anything (other than a lottery win). Where else can you spend one day liaising with multi millionaire developers in the highest spec office in London and the next scraping mud of your rigger boots in a site hut in Aberdeen?
